The Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) PhD Program focuses on the fundamental question: how do networks of molecules operate in living cells to orchestrate the behavior and physiology? CMB students combine traditional molecular genetics and biochemistry with cutting-edge approaches in genomics, systems and synthetic biology, microscopy and mathematical modeling. They go on to successful careers in academia, industry, science advocacy and policy-making.
Program Spotlight
My doctoral training in the Cell and Molecular Biology program has shaped me into a critical thinker and an independent professional who also works collaboratively. My PhD supervisor, Michael Glotzer, has nurtured a curiosity-driven lab environment where each member pursues projects quite distinct from others, even using different model systems to find the most suitable context for answering a scientific question. Collaboration came easily, since the other labs in CMB and the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology are generous with their time, resources, and guidance. Beyond science, I have made lifelong friendships here. I am glad to have chosen CMB, where the people are always there to support every student.
